modulaire, format libre / modular, Format « free »

Durable / Long term

Ouverture générale / General awareness

Processus / Process

trans-software documentation

Ingredients

Modular / format-less. Reduce work by automating editing/formatting/publishing process so people concentrate on content not on formatting.

Process

documentation of process rather than objects/events

'Generalness'. The role of wikipedia, its presence in the mind of people.  Accessibility. Making it easy for people to reach the content. But also licensing. Important people are aware of the existence of wikipedia, important to be there. The first place they will go and look for.

Long term/ sustainable Something that can be still available in ten years

other kind of data. we haven't thought enough about preserving tweets, logs, etc.

archive what I have already done. create a tool that allow for search, categorize and  share the results that have been chosen by the user. The archive 'self-documents' when documents are archived and when users browse/search the archive.

long term archiving and real-time archiving

Documenting what is happening in Madrid. The here and now and the longer term. Federated database. 3rd party platforms, tag it and fetch the content later. Use free licenses so people can re-use it later.

Puzzle, modularity

Questions

Specifying the means and neccessities

- technical solutions, financial resources, human resources

Collection of multimedia content

- Wikipedia of images, and advanced tagging of images (what's on them) and have link to other images

- problem: you need tagging done by humans

- participative platform needed

- Wikimedia Commons, Flickr

Standards for tagging  - w3c : standard on tagging media 'Media Resource Anthology' Ontology?

- metadata system for tagging different types of media: video, images

Conflict of author and group

- archiving can become easily an accumulation of individual experiences,

- that's why we have a facilitator that helps people to align with editing guidelines

- not a series of monologues, but there is an editing process behind it

Why book?

- Labsurlab is independent organization, but the book will be published by a Museum because is easily fits into a series of books

- book (physical) works better where there is no wide access to internet Games - tools to help people understand more complex structures of information

Methodologies

illustrator, artist: documentation -> wikipedia. Images where are they from where do they go?

But no metadata. When putting image on the web, put date and description. Wishes for a database of images, with clever relations between images. Legend is necessary. Wikimedia gives access to free licensed images, Flickr has CC related search. Standards on tagging. W3C released document studying what kind of metadata are archived. Media resource ontology http://www.w3.org/TR/mediaont-10/

Mal d'archive, authority authorship in archive. Who has the authority? Multiple authorship. Objectivity? Who can tags? How can we agree?

Social network n-1.cc It keeps the trace of our own process, what has been abandoned. Very affective and subjective memory.  Booki.cc Collective writing of a report on a wiki. Book will be published on a Booki.

Tea-tron.com publish information about scenic arts. Who documents? For labsurlab, a working group has taken in charge. But it preoccupies everybody. Relationship with museum. Museum will publish the book in the framework of their "non processual Art" publications. Pragmatically the book reaches places where there is no access to internet. Question: Accessibility, didactic. Recreate the arborescence of a website on paper. Livre dont vous etes le hero?

The book will also be translated in Portuguese Mapa sur mapping as documenting process. Translation. Every translation is a new version, a new interpretation.

Recipes

Booksprint

8 co-authors on one subject, one facilitator. Co-authors available during 5 days. During these 5 days, produce the book. Co-authors must have a laptop and access to  internet. Platform flossmanuals and Booki soon. Community of authors but also of translators. Method for gathering experts around a theme, flossmanuals looks for money to pay people concentrating for five days of their life.

The people are coming to Flossmanuals. Importance of the financial aspect, but still people contribute for free.

remarks: videoblogging by people who are experts on a software. Necessity of a book?

Medialab Prado

participants receive space and tools:wiki, blog,  video streams, etherpad forum, repository of code, svn. Video sessions are recorded. Custom made aplication that expose content to be shared with other institutions.

references to physical objects -> index of library. Institutions have to deal with a lot of references.

"you always need physical documentations to tell/show people!"

The whole process is documented. You don't only have the end-product. But you can see how it has been produced and even the profile of people involved in the process.

Way of "financing"

Dedicate one day per month to work on archiving (instead of working on the rest of your daily work)
