UpStage v4 english

Text tool

Letters, words and sentences can be written onto the stage in real time using the Text tool. Once a text object has been created and placed on the stage, the letters can be edited and its position altered, but be aware that it cannot be resized.

Create Text

Click on the Text tool in the left-hand menu. The text overlay will appear at the top of the stage, showing the New Text icon. Click on this, and a white overlay appears, along with the text options. Here you can choose the font, size, color, and the style (bold, italic, uderline) of your text.

In the place of the default text "Write or paste your text here", write or paste your own text. Make any adjustments to the font, size, colour and style, then click Save.

Your text object is now visible in the Text overlay and on the stage. The lightbulb is off, so it is not yet visible to other players and audience on the stage.

Place text on the stage

By default, the text is placed on the stage after saving it - but not visible until you turn on the lightbulb. To place a duplicate text, or one that has been saved earlier, drag it from the Text overlay onto the stage.

Click the lightbulb icon to make it visible to everyone. You can adjust all of the parameters before doing this.

Edit or Move mode

Text objects have two modes: Edit or Move. This is changed using the pencil icon below the lightbulb icon, at the top right of the green frame. When this icon is green, you are in Edit mode, and can edit the text to change, add or remove letters.

Click on the icon again to make it white and you are in Move mode. Now you can drag and drop the text to a new position on the stage.

Change opacity

Click on the text to display the green frame. Move the green slider on the left up or down to adjust the opacity of the text.

Bring forward or Send back

Right-click on the text to show the context menu. Coose "Bring forward" or "Send back" to move the text in front of or behind other objects on the stage.

Rotate your text

Are you sure you want to rotate your text? Keep in mind that doing so may decrease its readability! Right-click the text and rotate as desire. Then, reconsider the practicality of this idea...

Change the speed of Text Animation

Right-click on the text to show the context menu. Select "Move speed". Use the left slider to control its velocity.

Delete text

Have text on the stage that you no longer need? Right-click on it and click the "delete" button on the context menu. This removes the text, but it will remain availiable on the overlay. After the performance has finished, the text will disappear forever.

translation from french :

Sometimes it may be necessary to write things about the Stage. The Text tool allows you to write spontaneously and then display it on the course to make it visible to everyone.

Once the tool is activated, if no text is present, click on +.

A new option bar appears:

A text appears on the Stage, not yet visible to others: Write or paste your text here. Click on it to write something or paste a text, then:

  • choose the font;
  • set the size;
  • go for a color;
  • possibly style in bold, italic or underlined.
  • Confirm everything or cancel to start over.

Once validated, the text then appears on the Stage visible to all.

It is then possible to:

  • move text
  • decrease its opacity
  • rotate text
  • remove it from the stage.

On right-clicking a contextual menu appears and you can then:

  • put it in the foreground
  • put it in the background
  • remove it from the stage.

Throught the bulb icon, it is possible to make these actions visible to the audience.
